Rifkin is an energy consultant for the EU and has some very interesting points to make — he thinks that upgrading our electricity distribution system makes as much sense as buying a mainframe in the age of the personal computer. He sees distributed generation as a democratizing point-to-point information/energy network which will take the utilities by surprise.
